6 hours flight from Dubai to Mauritius and here we are in the most beautiful place on earth . As soon as we arrived we went straight to pick a car from https://www.rentacar.com/ ,if you want to have a car and explore the island better to do booking in advance and you can also rent a car seat.
So the car is ready ,locked and loaded we driving to the North part of the island where our apartment building is.
Potosi Residence ,with a nice view; 5 minutes walk from Trou aux Biches ,public beach ; and the kitchen (we always cook when we travel, because of my son’s food intolerance).
In the beginning we had a small misunderstanding with a staff but the manager Azagen ( I think that’s his name) was super nice and professional , he met our needs and changed our room to upper floor with a nice view on the ocean . So we were happy .
Next day we are ready to explore and see everything. This island has a lot of waterfalls so we are heading to see some of them ,Alexandra Waterfalls was the first one ,which is nice but not spectacular ,while you drive make sure you enjoy the views .
From there we are going to see Rochester Waterfall (which was on my list) ,to get there wasn’t easy , the road was muddy and wet due to the weather but we managed to get there ,which I was super happy about . If you are planning to visit this waterfall watch for the signs, it’s not many of them so it’s easy to get lost . And there was a guy who was selling coconuts ,he was so nice he showed me the waterfall from every angle and you would never tried to climb those rocks alone so good to meet someone who knows.
And now it’s time to see a famous Chamarel Waterfall and Seven Colored Earths , before you visit this destination make sure you go there at a right time ,it’s a protected area ,so it’s closed after certain time , http://mauritiusmemories.com/. It was very beautiful views and experience I would highly recommend to visit the park , the only thing was ,we could’t see all seven colors because of a rainy weather .
Time to go back and here I would like to tell you the story that happened to us . It was around 530pm and was getting dark plus the rainy weather , suddenly we see a van approaching us and within few seconds it faced us tightly and two guys jumped off the van and wanted to open the door of our car, luckily we lock it before every road trip!!! The next few minutes were the scariest , they broke a window but we managed to escape . Then we heard from policeman that it’s not a first case ,which we were shocked we would never travel with a baby to a place where is a little bit of danger.
(on a map I marked the road where it happened)
The next few days were very laid back , unfortunately we couldn’t see everything we planned because of that incident , so we stayed on the beach .
And our last day we went to SSR Botanical Garden , where you can see giant water lily ponds, pink lotus , palm collection , deers, turtles ,…
The island is big and we didn’t get a chance to visit East coast which I heard has a lot of beautiful beaches and places to enjoy.
So if you ever go to Mauritius make sure you pick not a rainy season and take a safe road , stay in a safe neighborhood and of course lock the doors ( not only in Mauritius, but anywhere you go)
